Welcome to Hilary Term 2018 at the Oxford Union! I hope that all our members, whether old or new, are ready to be challenged by our diverse Termcard. When the Union was founded in 1823, its aim was to focus on issues that young voices cared about, even if those issues were “ahead of their time” – 195 years on, we seek to do exactly the same.
The Union is a truly global platform that many of us take for granted during our time here in Oxford. I really cannot think of many other places where students can hear from world leaders, award-winning musicians, and Nobel Laureates, all under the same roof. Whether you’re a regular attender of our weekly debates, or come along to occasionally grab a drink in the Bar or play a quick game of Snooker, you shouldn’t forget that this global platform doesn’t just enable certain voices to be heard, but many. I encourage you all to get involved, whether that be by questioning our speakers, giving a floor speech in a debate, or by joining the Committee.
Our events are members-only: if you’re not already a member, you can join here! If you have any questions, or would like to make a suggestion, please do not hesitate to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. The Committee and I really look forward to seeing you all this Spring!
