PRESIDENT'S WELCOME

Dear Members,

Welcome back to the Oxford Union Society. I hope you have all had a fantastic Easter break and are looking forward to the Trinity term ahead of us that promises lots of Pimms, lots of punting and hopefully lots of sun.

Summer in my mind is a time to try something new, exciting and just a little bit different. With that in mind this term sees the introduction of the The Presidential Masterclass, our first ever debate on the institution of Page 3, some amazing social events and a return to real student debating. We also have some of the biggest speakers the Oxford Union has seen in recent times - David Cameron, Alan Rickman, Lisa Cudrow, Geri Hallwell, Jack White, Kim Cattrall and Chris Langham will all be joining us here next term.

If you have any questions, queries, suggestions or requests, please don't hesitate to get in touch. Above all this is your Union and the committee and I are simply here to help. 'Don't be a Pansey' - make sure you get the most out of your Union this summer.

Members may purchase tickets for up to 3 other members (ie 4 tickets in all) only PROVIDING they bring the absent member's membership card to the office.

Cheques are to be written to The Oxford Union, and MUST have the cheque guarantee details on the reverse (ie card number and expiry date), together with the Union membership number of the cheque writer

Description: STEVEN BERKOFF is regarded by many as the greatest living theatre practitioner. In 1968 he founded the London Theatre Group and went on to perform in the seminal A Clockwork Orange. As a film actor, he is internationally recognisable for his villainous roles in Octopussy, Beverly Hills Cop and Rambo. Furthermore, Berkoff's talent in theatre has gained him a formidable reputation: as a writer and director, he has been highly praised for his production of East and Decadence, and is renowned for his cutting-edge theatre style.

Description: Ever wanted to know what it is like to disarm a bomb? How about disposing of a bomb in the middle of Iraq - just you and the bomb. You can't fuck up this one. CHRIS HUNTER joined the Army at 16 before becoming its leading bomb disposal operator. He has been deployed to numerous operational theatres, including the Balkans, Afghanistan and Iraq. His actions in Iraq resulted in him being awarded the Queen's Gallantry Medal. Indeed, he was so good at his job that he became a top target for Iraqi militia groups. Chris will be taking members through a master class in bomb disposal. Fancy that extra adrenaline rush?
