About the Library
All members of the Oxford Union Society may borrow from the Library. Book loans are for two weeks and DVD loans for seven days. Members may borrow up to 8 books and 5 DVDs at a time. Books may be renewed on SOLO; DVDs are not renewable.
Vacation borrowing for books starts on the Monday of 7th week in each term. Books borrowed for the vacation are due back in 1st week of the following term. Members may borrow up to 10 books for the vacation. DVD loans remain at 7 days during vacations.
If you would like to use the Library but are not yet a member of the Union, please see the joining page.
Researchers from outside the University of Oxford may visit the reading rooms for reference only.
The Library collections are housed in various rooms in the Union buildings, notably the Old Library, Poetry Room and Goodman Library. All provide quiet and pleasant places in which to work.
For a more relaxed atmosphere where you can eat and drink as you work, please use the rooms upstairs - the Gladstone Room, Morris Room or Macmillan Rooms on the first floor or the TV Room on the second floor. Food and drink is available from the Bar during term time and can be taken upstairs to any of these rooms.
For current University staff and students, EDUROAM is available in the Old Library, Poetry Room and Morris Room. Log on with your OSSO and remote access password. If you do not yet have a remote access password, go to the University of Oxford IT Services Registration page. Sign in with your Oxford Single Sign-On (OSSO) and register for a Remote Access (EDUROAM/VPN) account password.
For other Union members, there are several "OxfordUnion" wireless networks available. Show your Union card at the Library Desk, General Office or Bar to obtain the password.
Printing services are available at 5p per sheet. Documents should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org and printout collected from Library Reception. Some files (generally only pdf) may be printed from memory stick using the Library photocopier. You will need a Union photocopier card for this - available from the Library Desk.
Union Members may scan for FREE to memory stick or email using the Library photocopier. Please ask at the Library Desk about this.
A photocopier is available for members' use in the Library Reception, with copying at 5p per sheet amongst the cheapest in Oxford. Colour photocopying is also available at 25p per sheet for A4 or 50p per sheet for A3. Photocopier cards can be bought from the Library Reception on production of a membership card.
