Online Memebership Purchase Terms and Conditions

   

If you buy membership of the Oxford Union Society online, you agree to be bound by the following Terms and Conditions of Purchase:

1. The purchase of membership of the Oxford Union is non-refundable, except where required by Statutary Provisions. If you subsequently obtain the ability to join under the Access Scheme no refund will be given.

2. Membership begins on receipt of your membership card, except as outlined below.

3. From the moment of purchase, the prospective member is bound by the Rules, Standing Orders and Special Schedules of the Oxford Union Society, which may be amended from time-to-time. These can be found in the General Office, the Library, or the web site (www.oxford-union.org).

4. The Oxford Union Society is an unincorporated association, governed by its Trust Deed, Rules, Standing Orders and Special Schedules.

5. Those who apply for membership through the Access Scheme at the reduced rate, where eligibility cannot be substantiated by a letter granting a full maintenance grant (not loan) from a Local Education Authority, will not hold membership of the Society until a further payment of the balance of the full Life Membership Fee has been made. The Oxford Union reserves the right to insist that the full fee is payable (not the Open Period Offer fee) - ie £200.99 (including online fee).

6. Those who apply for Life Membership online, but who are not:

   i) A full-time student at the University of Oxford,

   ii) studying at a College, Hall or Society of the University of Oxford, 

   iii) for a degree expected to take one year or longer,

   iv) in any department, except the Department of Continuing Education, and

   v) enrolled only at the University of Oxford and no other,

shall not hold membership of the Oxford Union Society by dint of this purchase. Their money will be reimbursed (less the online fee) in the form of a cheque from the General Office on application to the same during working hours.

7. Those who apply online for Membership, but who do not supply all details and proofs requested by the online joining and membership form, shall not hold membership of the Oxford Union Society. As well as the questions requiring answers on the online and paper forms, members must provide:

   i) Their bank address, account name, number and sort code, and their permission to deduct £7 per annum from their account, as prescribed by the Rules of the Society. This is for every year the member is a student or lives in Oxford.

   ii) A valid University of Oxford Bodleian card, proving their category of membership of the Univerdity as valid under 6. above.

   iii) Two passport-sized photographs.

   iv) Their signature agreeing to be bound by the Rules, Standing Orders and Special Schedules of the Oxford Union Society.

8. The Oxford Union Society reserves the right to refuse a person membership of the Society and/or to invalidate this purchase with full refund by cheque.
