This House Has No Confidence in Her Majesty's Government

The nation is faced with great challenges, from negotiating Britain's exit from the EU to societal divisions across the country;  close scrutiny of our elected representatives is needed now more than ever.  This traditional, headline debate offers an opportunity to interrogate the United Kingdom’s political leaders and establish in whose hands the apparatus of state should rest

  • Hilary Benn MP  -  The Chair of the Exiting the European Unoin Select Committee, he has held many positions inLabour's Shadow Cabinet, including Shadow Foreign Secretary (2015-2016) and Shadow Leader of the House of Commons (2010-2011)
  • Sir Vince Cable MP  -  The Leader of the Liberal Democrats, he served as Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills (2010-2015) and as Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer (2003-2010)
  • Emily Thornberry MP  -  The Shadow First Secretary of State and Shadow Foreign Secretary, she is a British Labour politician currently serving as the Member of Parliament for Islington South and Finsbury

  • Damian Green MP  -  The First Secretary of State and Minister for the Cabinet Office, he returns to the Oxford Union on the 40th anniversary of his tenure as President (Michaelmas Term 1977)
