This House Believes The Mainstream Media Cannot Be Trusted


Established news sources have increasingly come under fire for being biased and out of touch.  Though such criticisms are often brusquely dismissed, is it time we started taking them seriously?


Speakers in Proposition:

  • Kerry-Anne Mendoza  :  Editor-in-Chief of The Canary, an alternative left wing news website;  she has also written for The Guardian and Russia Today
  • Brendan O'Neill  :  Editor of Spiked Online;  he writes regularly for The Spectator and has contributed to The Big Issue and New Statesman


Speakers in Opposition:

  • Cameron Barr  :  Managing Editor of The Washington Post since 2015;   he was nominated finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in 2003
  • Eamon Ryan  :  Irish Minister for Communications, Energy & Natural Resources from 2007 to 2011;  he is now leader of the Irish Green Party

 

Prior to this debate, the Emergency Debate will be held at 7.45pm on a motion to be decided at this week's Consultative Committee
