He was the first sitting Nigerian President to do so. As the leader of Africa’s biggest economy, he oversaw a period of unprecedented growth and development, including the implementation of a state-supported electricity supply. His Presidency was not without controversy, having earned criticism for corruption and intolerance, especially following the 2014 Same Sex Marriage Prohibition Act.
