Comedy Debate at the Oxford Union

7.45 PM - Emergency Debate ("This House believes that a drink before and a cigarette after are the three best things in life") 8.30 PM - Main Debate "This House Believes There's No Such Thing as a Cheap Laugh" Comedy comes in all shapes and sizes, from satire, to sketches, to slapstick. Everyone finds humour in different places, and in different ways. But should the ability to make someone laugh only be valued in certain situations? Is there a highest form of wit, or is crude, rude, and lewd where the money's at? PROPOSITION: Rory Fraser: 2nd Year English student from Trinity College. Jon Holmes: Regularly mocked for his short stature, he is primarily an award winning radio presenter. He is a renowned television personality and prolific writer, winning two BAFTA’s. Barry Cryer OBE: A national treasure, he is a regular panellist on I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue and has written extensively for many noted performers, including Morecambe & Wise. OPPOSITION: Joshua James: English Masters student from Lincoln College, and former pianist for the Oxford Imps. Iszi Lawrence: Headliner in UK, Ireland, Norway and Belgium, she is compere of Lil Fat Comedy Club in Oxfordshire and BBC Comedy Semi-finalist. Simon Evans: With his distinctive voice, he is a huge fan favourite on the UK stand-up circuit, as well as being a regular performer on television and radio.
