Oxbridge Debate

  • Event Start: 26th April 2018, 8:30pm
  • Event Type:

This House Believes Oxbridge is Failing Britain

For 800 years, Oxford and Cambridge have divided opinion.  To many, Oxbridge epitomises the elitist and nepotistic flaws of British society.  Meanwhile, those with an Oxbridge education still dominate Parliament, the Civil Service, and the Justice System.  Does this reflect an archaic system of privilege and hierarchy that is detrimental to modern society?

Speakers in Proposition:

  • Natalie Perera : Executive Director of the Education Policy Institute and former Policy Advisor to the Cabinet Office
  • Russell Hobby : CEO of Teach First and former General Secretary of the National

Speakers in Opposition:

  • Chris Blackhurst : Former Editor of The Independent and current Group Content Director of Lebedev Holdings Ltd
  • Bill Rammell : Vice-Chancellor of Bedfordshire University and former Minister for Higher Education
  • Lewis Iwu : Former Director of the Fair Education Alliance and first black President of OUSU

Prior to this debate, the Emergency Debate will be held at 7.45pm on a motion to be decided at this week's Consultative Committee
