This House Believes That Porn has a Place in Sex Education

With over 60% of young people today turning to pornography in search of information on sexual activity that they are not taught in school, we can no longer consider it as taboo.  Can pornography offer important educational benefits to teenagers, helping to develop their emerging sexual identities?  Or, rather, does it only offer an unrealistic version of sexuality that contributes to dangerous misconceptions about sexual pleasure?

Speakers in Proposition:

  • Dr Christian Jessen  :  Famous for presenting a variety of health and fitness orientated TV shows, from Embarrassing Bodies to Superize vs Superskinny, Jessen is a practising doctor and TV personality
  • Dr Ruth Westheimer  :  A German-American sex therapist, media personality and author, she began her career in 1980 with a radio show called Sexually Speaking, which continued until 1990
  • Anja Rubik  :  One of the most successful supermodels of the past few decades, Rubik has starred in a  plethora of fashion campaigns.  Her campaign #sexedpl, aims to raise awareness about sexual education despite opposition from the Polish government.   • Maggie Atkinson  :  Serving as the Children’s Commissioner from 2010 to 2015, Atkinson is a member of the Department of Health’s Children and Young People’s Health Outcomes Forum
  • Lisa Ann  :  A pornographic actress and radio personality, she retired from performing in the industry in 2014.  She worked as a talent agent for models, eventually starting her own agency to represent women over 30 who were continuously turned away
