Banks is widely regarded as one of the chief architects of Brexit, having donated more than £13 million to anti-EU organisations, including UKIP, as well as having funded and directed Leave.EU, the unofficial Leave campaign in the 2016 referendum.  Following the referendum, Banks wrote The Bad Boys of Brexit, a book chronicling his role in the campaign's success.  Recently, his political activities have come under legal scrutiny for possible connections with Russian authorities
