Gurría is a Mexican economist and diplomat.  He has served as Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, an intergovernmental economic organisation which works to stimulate economic progress and world trade, since 2006.  He has previously served on the United Nations Secretary General’s Global Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation, and in various positions within the Mexican government
