Behind Closed Doors:  Ending Domestic Violence

During the first lockdown, calls to the Women's Aid helpline rose by 43%, whilst calls to the Mankind Initiative rose by 35%.  Domestic violence has blighted societies across the world for as long as we can remember and the pandemic has only worsened the situation.  So why is the issue surrounded by silence?  This panel will ask what we can do to support survivors of domestic abuse and how we can direct conversation to tackle this issue once and for all


  • Donna Ferrato  :  An internationally acclaimed photojournalist known for her groundbreaking documentation of the hidden world of domestic violence.  Her seminal book Living With The Enemy sparked a national discussion on sexual violence and women's rights
  • Elizabeth Bates  :  A senior lecturer in psychology, her specialist research area is working with male victims of female perpetrated intimate partner violence.  She also does work more broadly within the area of domestic violence and abuse
