Mr Bertie Ahern is a former Irish politician who became Ireland’s youngest ever Taoiseach (Prime Minister) in 1997, serving for over ten years, the second longest tenure of any Taoiseach. Before becoming leader of Fianna Fáil in 1994, Ahern held several significant positions within Irish politics including Minister for Finance, Minister for Labour and Lord Mayor of Dublin. He led three coalition governments and as Taoiseach negotiated the final parts of the Good Friday Agreement. In 2004 he served as President of the European Council.
