Formal Debates

Weekly formal debates are held during term on topics ranging across politics, philosophy, religion, culture, and more. These debates use our famous British Parliamentary style of debating in the form of motions which are debated for and against by guests and members; Union members vote on the motion at the conclusion. The Union's debating chamber, the largest purpose-built chamber in Europe, has hosted some of the most significant debates of the past two centuries and continues to do so today.

Speaker Events

Each term, the Oxford Union Committee curates a diverse programme of speaker events, giving members the unique opportunity to question, challenge, learn from, and engage with guests from every walk of life. With speakers spanning politics, science, business, the arts, entertainment, and beyond, there is something to inspire every member.

Social Events

The Union is a vibrant social hub at the heart of Oxford, hosting termly balls, regular pub quizzes, and a wide range of other events, including summer garden parties, ceilidhs, gin and whisky tastings, Lunar New Year celebrations, election watch parties, world food festivals, and wine and cheese nights.
